Description
An oil drop tenmoku bowl, semi handmade and fired at 1280°C.
Tenmoku is the black iron glaze that crystallises into silver and bronze flecks during a high firing. The pattern is a product of the kiln, not a decoration applied to it, which is why every bowl is different and why the rim is not a perfect circle.
Fired at 1280°C from clay rather than porcelain, so it is heavier and holds heat longer than a thin ceramic bowl. 10.5cm diameter, 7.5cm high, which is the traditional chawan size.

Common questions
Ceremonial grade is made from young first-harvest leaves and is meant to be whisked with water and drunk on its own. Culinary grade is designed to hold its flavour against milk and sugar in lattes and baking.
Sift a small measure into a bowl, add water at around 80 degrees rather than boiling, and whisk briskly until it foams. For a latte, make that paste first and then add your milk.
Keep it sealed, cold and away from light. Matcha loses colour and sweetness quickly once air reaches it, so reseal it properly after every use.
