A single origin coffee comes from one country, and usually one region or farm, rather than being blended. That makes it traceable, and it lets the character of the place show in the cup. Single origins are at their best black: as a long black, on filter or through an AeroPress.
Blends are built for consistency and body, which is why most espresso blends are blends. Single origins trade some of that for character. If you drink milk coffee, either works; if you drink black, try a single origin. See single origin vs blend.
Typically sweet, clean and balanced, with caramel and a gentle citrus acidity. Our guide to Colombian, Brazilian and Ethiopian coffee compares the main origins.
