Description
Certified organic single origin arabica from Colombia's western highlands.
The Smuggler Organic is 100% Colombian arabica with a distinctive aroma and rich flavour, grown organically in Colombia's western highlands and roasted medium to medium-dark.
It works as espresso and through filter, stovetop, Aeropress or cold drip. Available in 250g or 1kg, whole bean or ground to order.
The organic version of The Smuggler Colombian, from the same western highlands. It is a good match for filter and AeroPress, where a clean single origin shows best, and it still has the body for espresso.
How to brew it
- Espresso machine: fine. Start with 18 to 20g in a double basket and aim for about 25 to 30 seconds; go finer if it runs fast, coarser if it chokes.
- Stovetop / moka pot: fine to medium-fine, a little coarser than espresso. Fill the basket level and do not tamp.
- Filter and pour over: medium. Around 60g per litre of water is a good starting ratio.
- AeroPress: medium-fine, with one to two minutes of contact time.
- Cold drip: medium-coarse, dripped slowly over several hours.

Blend or single origin?
A blend mixes beans from more than one farm or country, balanced by the roaster so the cup tastes the same bag after bag. A single origin comes from one place, so it tastes distinctly of where it grew and shifts a little with each harvest.

Which grind should I pick?
- Whole Beans
- Unground, exactly as roasted. Pick this if you have a grinder at home. It keeps its flavour far longer than ground coffee and will always give you the better cup.Shop grinders →
- Ground: Espresso – Commercial
- Fine, set for a cafe machine with a 9 bar pump and a 58mm portafilter. Too fine for most home machines, which will choke on it.Shop commercial machines →
- Ground: Espresso – Home
- Fine, but a touch coarser than the commercial setting, so a domestic espresso machine can push water through it without stalling.Shop home espresso machines →
- Ground: Aeropress
- Medium-fine, between espresso and filter. Suits the short steep an Aeropress uses.Shop brewing gear →
- Ground: Stovetop
- Medium-fine for a moka pot or percolator. Finer than filter, coarser than espresso, so it does not clog the basket.Shop moka pots →

- Medium, for drip machines and pour over. The most forgiving grind if you are not sure which to choose.Shop pour over →

Common questions
Pick the brew method you actually use and we grind to match it: espresso, filter, plunger, stovetop or Turkish. Choose whole bean if you have a grinder at home, which will always give you the better cup.
We grind and dispatch on the same day rather than pulling a pre-ground bag off a shelf, so the coffee is as close to roast-fresh as mail order gets.
Keep the bag sealed and out of the light and it will hold up for roughly two to four weeks after opening. Whole beans hold longer than ground. Do not refrigerate it.
